Senior SP leader Banwari Lal Kanchhal on Friday joined BSP as he was fed up with the anti-trader policies of the SP and decided to join the BSP after an assurance from its general secretary S C Mishra that his party would work in the interest of traders.
Senior Samajwadi Party leader and Rajya Sabha member Banwari Lal Kanchhal on Friday joined Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and announced to resign from the upper house of Parliament.

Kanchhal, a trade leader said, he was fed up with the anti-trader policies of the SP and decided to join the BSP after an assurance from its general secretary S C Mishra that his party would work in the interest of traders.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati while welcoming him to the party told reporters that Kanchhal has joined BSP in the interest of the trader community and not for his personal benefit.
When asked that Kanchhal was one of those actively who protested against killing of a PWD engineer allegedly by a BSP MLA, she said, "there was nothing wrong in it".
People try to increase the support base of the party which they belong to and their is nothing wrong in it, she added.
