Two killed, 14 injured in road mishap near Madurai

Two persons, including an 11-year-old girl, have been killed and 14 injured when a goods auto carrying them turned turtle.

The mishap occurred last evening at Sakkimangalam, about 20 km from Madurai, when all the 16 people were proceeding on the auto to attend a function at Karuppayurani, they said.

The deceased have been identified as Dhanammal (45) and Maris (11) of Sivaganga district.

Fourteen people who sustained grave injuries and were admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital here, they said.

Both the deceased were crushed under the vehicle.

Local residents and police rushed to the spot and pulled out the victims. Karuppayurani police have registered a case.
