ALTHOUGH CHIEF Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is yet to announce the expected decision to contest by-poll from Budhni assembly seat, spadework has begun to ensure that residents of this area are connected with mobile phones ahead of the high-profile contest.

Some more sops are also likely in the coming State Budget for the region. That is the reason Chouhan has not announced the decision to contest election, lest the model code of conduct should come in the way, according to sources.

It is learnt that close associates of the Chief Minister have started making hectic efforts to get a BSNL mobile network tower erected in Shahganj at the earliest. Shahganj is barely eight km from Chouhan’s village Jait and falls under Budhni assembly constituency.

With the expansion already on its agenda, the BSNL has no problem in obliging the CM. BSNL sources said that the supporters of Chouhan are in regular touch with the officials and are requesting for completion of the work before imposition of the model code of conduct.

This would also enable the Chief Minister to inaugurate this mobile tower and taking credit for it. The BSNL officials have already completed half of the work and the tower is likely to be erected in a fortnight.

According to BSNL sources, connectivity in this area could be started within a month so that political workers of Shahganj and adjoining rural areas could remain connected during the possible by-election in case the Chief Minister decides to contest from here. Recently, the Superintendent of Police and the Collector of Sehore were changed. Budhni falls under Sehore district
