Raksha Bandhan 2022: The festival of Rakhi is right around the corner, and siblings everywhere are ready to mark this day with much excitement. Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival honouring the special bond shared between siblings. It is celebrated enthusiastically in all parts of India, especially in the North and West. It falls on the full moon day (Purnima) of Shravan or Sawan month. On this day, the sisters tie Rakhi on their brother's wrists and wish them a long, prosperous and happy life. In return, the brothers promise to protect their sisters throughout their life. Siblings also exchange special gifts on this day, with brother pampering sisters with their favourite things.

When Is Raksha Bandhan 2022?
This year, Raksha Bandhan will fall on August 11 and 12. Drik Panchang says that the Sawan Purnima tithi will begin at 10:38 am on August 11 and end on 07:05 am on August 12, 2022. However, since Bhadra will also take place with the full moon and prevail during the first half of Purnima Tithi, siblings can tie the Rakhi after it ends. The Raksha Bandhan Bhadra will end at 08:51 pm. Therefore, the best muhurat for tying Rakhi will start on the evening of Thursday, August 11, and last till Friday, August 12.
According to Drik Panchang, brothers and sisters can tie Rakhi from 08:51 pm to 09:13 pm. Moreover, there is no Bhadra on August 12. However, the full moon will last only till 07:16 in the morning. Additionally, the festival of Rakhi can also be marked during the time of Bhadra Punchha, which will be from 05:17 pm to 06:18 pm on August 11.
Raksha Bandhan 2022 History, Significance And Celebrations:
As per Hindu mythology - in Mahabharat - Lord Krishna accidentally cut his finger on the Sudarshan Chakra. Seeing this, Princess Draupadi tied a piece of cloth to prevent blood loss. Lord Krishna was deeply touched by her gesture, and in return, promised to take care of her from all evils in the world. During Draupadi's chirharan, when the Kauravas tried to shame and belittle her, Lord Krishna kept his promise by protecting her from dishonour and humiliation.
Sisters put tilak on their brother's forehead, tie a Rakhi around the wrist, eat sweets, and exchange gifts on this day. The Rakhi ritual reaffirms the bond and support shared between siblings. Additionally, by tying the Rakhi, the brothers promise to protect their sisters, fulfil their wishes, give blessings, and support them in every endeavour of their lives. Nowadays, siblings also buy Rakhis signifying their special bond.
