India never saw a PM as irresponsible as Modi: Sonia Gandhi tells partymen
India has never had a Prime Minister as irresponsible as Narendra Modi, United Progress Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi said on Monday while addressing a closed-door meeting of workers from her Congress party.
“The PM’s sense of responsibility was evident on the day when he said he had nothing at stake and could just pack up and leave one day. The country has never seen such an irresponsible Prime Minister,” Gandhi said. The Congress leader was in her parliamentary constituency for the meeting, where her daughter and Congress general secretary in-charge of UP East Priyanka Gandhi Vadra too made an address. “I want to tell those who want to shelve responsibility after ruining the country that each and every Congress worker will continue to fight for the country’s values till last of their breath,” Gandhi added.
She said the 2019 Lok Sabha election was different from past elections since it would decide the fate of all sections of society and whether those destroying the Constitution would stay in power. “I am proud that you have stood with me at all the time, gave me strength and boosted my confidence… You have been fighting my election in the past and will do so this election too,” said Gandhi.
Listing projects such as the Rae Bareli coach factory, she accused the Bharatiya Janata Party-controlled state and Union governments of creating hurdles in the region’s development.
Priyanka Gandhi targeted BJP candidate Dinesh Pratap Singh, saying Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had warned her that Singh would leave the Congress.
“We are a democracy and Congress can say what it’s saying. But an average Indian is the best barometer to judge the claim of a Congress leader who was the de-facto PM for 10 years. Has the country progressed and prospered, emerged out of clutches of vote-bank politics in 5 years of Modi rule? The people will answer to this irresponsible remark on May 23,” said BJP spokesperson Navin Srivastava.
