Lok Sabha Elections 2019: All-women team manage ‘pink booth’ in Pune

A pink polling booth has only female staff, including presiding officers, polling officers, micro observers and security personnel

In an attempt to encourage women voters in the Wadgaon Sheri constituency, a pink polling booth was set up at Eon Gyanankur English school, Kharadi. The booth was headed by Trupti Dhodmise.

A pink polling booth has only female staff, including presiding officers, polling officers, micro observers and security personnel.

The booth can be distinguished by its pink decor.

Sanjeev Deshmukh, assistant returning officer, said, “This is a first of its kind initiative in the Wadgaon Sheri constituency. We have never had an all women staff managing a polling both. We wanted to break the barriers and encourage women voters.”

Dhodmise said, “It is a unique initiative and we had 10 women present here at the booth helping voters.”
