Allahabad: To woo tourists, ropeway across Yamuna on cards

If all goes as per the plan, Allahabad is likely to get a ropeway facility over Yamuna near Sangam before Ardh Kumbh.

The tourism department has forwarded a proposal to the state government for approval.

“Two sites — Boat Club and near Saraswati Ghat — have been suggested in the proposal for the facility. It will take tourists to a stretch near Arail,” said Anupam Srivastava, regional tourism officer.

“The proposal has been routed through UP tourism department to a Delhi-based firm, consultants of which are expected to arrive for assessing details in a fortnight. The facility would help in enhancing tourism potential of Prayag,” he said.

As per the official, apart from ropeway facility, officials of civil aviation department and tourism department were present working on a module for providing airbus facility between Lucknow and Allahabad besides helicopter service for tourists seeking aerial view of Sangam was also on cards.

“Presently there are three under construction ropeway projects in UP in Mirzapur, Chitrakoot and Mathura respectively. The project in Vidhyachal in Mirzapur district has an estimated cost of around Rs 20 crore while that in Chitrakoot is around Rs 35 crore. The cost of under construction project in Barsana, Mathura is around Rs 67 crore. The team of consultant arriving in Allahabad later this month would check technical feasibility of the project here,” he said.

It may be mentioned that chief minister Yogi Adityanath on his recent visit to Allahabad had announced major plans to develop religious places in UP for enhancing the tourism potential.
