The state vigilance department on Thursday booked BJP MLA Anurag Singh and two others in a case of financial bungling of government funds.
It lodged an FIR of forgery and criminal conspiracy against three persons, including Singh, who is also the son of former BJP minister OP Singh and a first time MLA from Chunar constituency of Mirzapur.
Singh as chairman of Sardar Patel Institute of Dental Sciences has been accused of embezzlement of social welfare department funds worth over a crore issued in favour of the institute as a part of the students’ fees reimbursements.
Vigilance inspector, DS Rathore said the FIR had been lodged against the MLA, account manager of the institute, Pankaj Kumar Vyas and accountant Sudhir Sharma with the PGI police station.
Inspector said the open inquiry was initiated by the vigilance department on March 14, 2016 after receiving complaints from nine dental science students of 2008-11 batch. He said the detailed probe revealed that social welfare department released funds for scholarships of these students and ordered not to take fees from them or refund them the fees if already deposited.
He said the institute chairman and his staff allegedly did not refund the fees of students. He said similar complaints were also received in the cases of 12 other reserved category students, which would be included in the FIR.
Earlier, a separate FIR of fraud and forgery was also lodged against Singh regarding the dispute over the property related to Dr OP Chaudhary Trust lodged at PGI police station in August 2011. The FIR was lodged by the late Chaudhary’s wife Ram Dulari for grabbing the trust’s property fraudulently.
Initially, the police had submitted the final report in favour of Singh but re-investigation in the case was ordered by the court in May this year.
