The body of a one-month-old baby girl, who was murdered and stuffed inside a bag, was found in the back seat of an autorickshaw parked at Qureshi Nagar in Bandra (West) on Thursday morning.

The autorickshaw driver, Mohammad Nadim, 27, found the body at 9.30am, after which he contacted the police.
“I have been driving this auto since October 18. I take it out between 9 am and 10pm, and then park it at Qureshi Nagar, where the vehicle’s owner lives. On Thursday morning, I found a bag in the back seat. When I opened it, I found an infant wrapped in clothes,” said Nadim.
The driver then alerted the autorickshaw owner, Yamin Qureshi, and they informed the police.
“The post-mortem report suggests that it is a murder and we have registered an offence under sections 302 of the Indian Penal Code [IPC] for murder,” said an officer from Bandra police station.
“We have procured data of newborn girl babies from BMC. The data shows that 150 girl babies were born in October. We are checking their status and also scanning CCTV footage of the locality,” said another police officer. “We received an input that two people on a bike were spotted in the area at 7.30am. We are trying to identify them.”
