24-year-old man rapes minor schoolgirl in Powai

According to the Powai police, the accused and the girl were known to each other.

The Powai police are on the lookout for a 24-year-old man, who allegedly raped a 14-year-old schoolgirl from his neighbourhood in a chawl area in Powai.

According to the police, the accused and the girl knew each other. “The accused befriended her and then raped her,” said a police official privy to the investigation.

The incident is said to have occurred on 21st October, when the girl was nowhere to be found. Her parents immediately approached the Powai police, where as per SC guidelines, a case of kidnapping was registered under section 363 of IPC as she is a minor.

The next day, the girl was traced, and alleged that the man sexually assaulted her. A case of rape was registered under section 376 of the IPC, and under relevant sections of Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Senior police inspector Bhai Mahadeshwar confirmed that they have filed a case of rape.
