The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena and Congress will now control two municipal councils each in the Palghar-Dahanu region.

According to the results announced by the State Election Commission, BJP won the Dahanu and Taloda municipal councils, while Congress won Nandurbar and Nawapur municipal councils and Sena won the Jawhar and Wada municipal councils.

The Commission said BJP won 44 out of the 136 seats of the six municipal councils, while Congress and Sena bagged 46 seats and 23 seats respectively.

Election to six municipal councils in the region were held this month in two phases --the polls for Nandurbar, Wada and Navapur municipal councils were held on December 13, while the polls for Dahanu, Javhar and Taloda were on December 17.

The BJP has had a successful run in the local self-government polls held this year. Last week, the party bagged six out of the ten municipal councils in the state that had gone to polls earlier.

Attributing the BJP’s success to the developmental works carried out by the party, Madhav Bhandari, state BJP spokesperson said, “It has been a satisfactory performance. Apart from Dahanu and Taloda, we performed well in Wada nagar panchayat as well. This goes to show that people of the state have faith in the development work carried out under the leadership of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.”
