Cops yet to trace biker who stopped to molest woman on a busy road

Three weeks after a woman posted on micro-blogging site Twitter about being molested by a biker at Goregaon (West), the Goregaon police are yet make any progress in the case.

On September 14, the woman was standing on MG road when a biker on a black motorbike allegedly slowed down as he approached her, pinched her and rode away. The woman tweeted to the Mumbai police’s official handle: “A perv on the bike slowed his bike and pinched me on my upper body. As I tried to hit him with my bag, saw his bike number only 2572 (sic).”

A case was registered with the Goregaon police, but there has been no headway since with the investigations. Officials claim they don’t have enough leads to solve the case. “We visited the accident spot, but did not find any CCTV cameras. There is no way for us to trace the biker,” said an officer, not wishing to be named.

When it was pointed out that the woman had provided a part of the bike’s registration number, the officer said, “There are many bikes with numbers ending 2572. It will take us a lot of time to trace the biker. We have not found an eye-witnesses either.”

The complainant had also provided the police a description of the accused. She said he was wearing a blue shirt and a helmet and was carrying a backpack.

Bhaskar Jadhav, a senior inspector at the police station, remained tight-lipped over the slow progress, only saying: “I will have to check for the development. I am busy right now.”

The woman later took to social media to post a picture, asking, “Was I wearing any provocative clothes to incite molestation on a public road in afternoon? Thought Mumbai was safer.”
