4 killed as car hits trailer on Mumbai-Pune expressway

Four people, including a police constable from Mumbai, were killed when their car hit a trailer on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Saturday at 1.40am.

The accident took place near Lonavala, while both vehicles were heading towards Pune.

The police identified the victims as Rajendra Vishnu Chavan, 47 — a police constable — and Sakshi Rajendra Chavan, 42, residents of Marol; and Shankar Martin Vangule, 32, and Pooja Shankar Vangule, 27, residents of Mahad.

The mishap comes three days after two people were killed and four others injured after an SUV they were travelling in ploughed into the railings of a bridge and fell into a 15-foot nullah near Lonavala on the expressway.
