Man’s body found in nullah day after son is murdered near Mumbai
Virar police said they initially suspected that the father had murdered his son.
The police found the body of 45-year-old catering firm employee Chandrakant Kargal in a nullah in Virar on Wednesday afternoon, a day after they found the body of his son, Harsh, 10, in a pond in Virar (East).
Virar police said they initially suspected that Chandrakant had murdered Harsh. Their suspicions intensified with CCTV camera footage revealed that he had picked up Harsh on Monday afternoon.
However, they now suspect someone else planned the double murders and have registered a case against unidentified people.
Officials said Chandrakant’s hands were tied with rope and duct tape was wrapped around his face.
“Harsh’s body was found in a pond in Kaner Dahisar village near Vaitarna in Virar, while his father’s body was found in a nullah at the Arnala MHADA colony. We suspect that the family’s relatives are behind the murders and are on the hunt for them,” said Jayant Bajbale, deputy superintendent of police, Virar.
He added that Chandrakant’s wife Sumitra had registered a missing persons complaint.
Chandrakant’s family shifted from Borivli to Virar two years ago. He skipped work often and would go out drinking instead, said Bajbale.
Harsh’s funeral was held in the family’s home town of Indapur in Pune on Wednesday. “Chandrakant’s body has been sent for a postmortem. A report is awaited,” said Bajbale.
