Tilak Nagar police on Friday arrested Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Corporator from Dombivli for attacking Shiv Sena’s Dombivli unit chief with ink. Mahesh Patil and three others were arrested and produced in the Kalyan court, which granted them bail against surety of Rs10,000.
Patil, with 50 others, smeared Bhau Chaudhary’s face with ink outside his house on Thursday. A video of the ink attack went viral on social media soon after.
Angered by the attack, senior Sena leaders and party workers protested outside BJP office in Dombivli and Tilak Nagar police station for four hours. The party workers even burnt an effigy of BJP’s state unit chief Raosaheb Danve.
Sena leader and Thane guardian minister Eknath Shinde, along with several senior leaders, visited Tilak nagar police and demanded Patil’s arrest. He even threatened a day-long ‘bandh’ in Dombivli against police inaction. Moreover, the party also put up hoardings to condemn the ink attack.
Based on Chaudhary’s complaint, Tilak Nagar police booked Patil and 50 others under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. “Patil and his three associates were arrested and produced in court. They were released on a bail bond of Rs 10,000,” said an officer of Tilak Nagar police station.

“The remarks made by Danve are unacceptable, which is why we protested against him. The BJP corporator attacked me outside my residence. This has irked our party seniors,” said Chaudhary.
