The incident occurred around 10.30 am on Thursday and the accused were picked up from Mahindra park junction in Ghatkopar (West).
The robbers, Mohammed Siddiqui, Kalyan Tiwari, Gopal Tiwari, Shagir Gupta and Anwar Shaikh, are all aged between 22 and 25 years.
“The accused have been booked on charges of preparation and assembling for the purpose of committing dacoity and for illegal possession of arms,” said Rajkumar Vhatkar, deputy commissioner of police, Zone VII. He added that three accused are still wanted in the case.
According to the Ghatkopar police, they had received information some days ago that armed robbers were planning to loot a bank in Ghatkopar.
“We laid a trap in the area. Finding their movements suspicious, we rounded them up but three of them managed to escape. Three revolvers, five live rounds and two choppers were seized from the miscreants,” said police inspector Uttam Kolekar of the Ghatkopar police station.
The police are checking the past records of the accused. “We are verifying if there are any past cases against the arrested accused,” Kolekar added.
