Accused attempts suicide in Arthur Road jail

A history sheeter who was arrested by the Kanjurmarg police for a housebreak-in case in Bhandup attempted suicide by slitting his wrist on Sunday.

A history sheeter who was arrested by the Kanjurmarg police for a housebreak-in case in Bhandup attempted suicide by slitting his wrist on Sunday.

The accused identified as Abdul Wahab Memon (45), allegedly demanded the cops to pay his bail surety amount or else he would claim that the cops had bashed him up because of which he had sustained. Memon, who was a drug addict, was given medical attention after which he was sent to Arthur Road jail.

The police suspect he procured the glass piece by breaking a windowpane of one of the cells

Memon had fled with cash and valuables worth Rs 4.92 lakh from the Bhandup residence of Kashiram Kamble, when the family was out attending a wedding. He had earlier targeted areas in Thane and Mumbai.

The accused was presented before the Vikhroli court on Monday and was sent to judicial custody.
