A complaint of ‘cheating’ and other offences was filed before a magistrate's court in Baramati in Pune district on Monday against Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis for giving ‘false assurances’ on reservations for the Dhangar (shepherd) community.
The complaint was filed by activist Hemant Patil, a member of BSP. The matter has been posted for June 12.
Patil said the Dhangar community had been demanding reservation in the scheduled tribe category for 63 years. When the community took to the streets over this, Fadnavis, then in the Opposition, had promised in writing that after coming to power the BJP government would provide the reservation but the promise was not fulfilled, the complaint says.
Fadnavis got votes from the community on the basis of a false assurance, the complaint states.
