The 33-year-old Malad resident has been booked for causing death due to rash and negligent driving.

Dham works with an engineering firm and was heading towards Ghatkopar when the incident took place on the pothole-ridden Aarey Colony Road.

On Tuesday, Siddesh Dhake’s body was handed over to his parents, who conducted the last rites.

“Dham was released as it’s a bailable offence. He was not under the influence of alcohol when the mishap took place,” said Laxman Tonpe, senior police inspector of Aarey police station.

The accident took place around 10am when Dhake, a resident of Pant Nagar in Ghatkopar, was heading towards Goregaon to attend his animation class at Whistling Woods institute.

He was driving allegedly at high speed and was thrown off his bike when he tried to dodge a pothole. Dham was driving his Indica from the opposite direction and ran over Dhake.

The youngster was taken to Bhagwati hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Dham was arrested from the spot.
