A ‘suspicious object’ planted near a dustbin around Infiniti mall in Andheri, set off a bomb scare in the area on Wednesday. However, after the police, bomb squad and even ATS officials were rushed to the spot, it was found that the object was a dummy bomb, the kind used in film shoots.

Locals said panic prevailed in the area after news of the ‘bomb’ spread and police had to completely shut access to the road in both directions for two-and-a-half hours.

Around 11.45 am, four youth playing near Infiniti mall, spotted what looked like a bomb next to a dustbin. They promptly called the police. By the time the police arrived, a crowd of more than 2,000 had gathered at the spot.

Police are now checking if CCTVs were installed in the area, to see who planted the dummy bomb there.
