The Bombay High Court, on Friday, was hearing a petition filed by Abdul Sattar Suleiman Mithaiwala, owner of the sweet shop, seeking action against the officers. “What if the aggrieved party and accused are related?” asked the division bench of justices AM Khanwilkar and AP Bhangale.

“Robbing someone of Rs 45,000 is a cognisable offence,” observed the bench. “The FIR has to be registered.”

The bench issued notices to senior inspector Shamsher Khan Pathan and inspector Rafique Shaikh since severe allegations are made in the petition.
