MUMBAI: Women nurses have opposed t he Maharashtra Nursing Council’s (MNC) decision to increase the quota for men nursing aspirants from 10% to 30% in the state’s nursing colleges. “The intention is to break gender bias,” said Dr Ramaling Mali, president, MNC.

I ndumati Thorat, secret ary, Gover nment Nurses Association, said in her experience, women nurses tend to be more sensitive and gentle.
However, Geeta Dhananukar, senior nurse, KEM Hospital, Parel, said j ust as women patients prefer being assisted by women nurses, men patients too, prefer men nurses. “There should be a good balance…to ensure all patients feel comfortable,” she said.
