Sources said they suspect Tak cooked up the story of killing them following a fight so that he could benefit from it during the trial. A murder following a fight could show it was not premeditated, which could attract a lesser sentence.

“Tak has not been able to explain why the mattress on the first floor was blood soaked, when he claims the fight took place on the ground floor,” a source said.

Tak, in his statement, said he got into an argument with Celina, Laila Khan’s mother, on the first floor on February 8, 2011, and they came to the ground floor. There he killed Celina first and then the rest of the family with the help of Shabir Hussein, the watchman.

The crime branch is trying to gather evidence to prove the murders were pre-planned.

So far, the crime branch has evidence to prove Tak recruited Hussein just two months before the murders.

Photo technique to verify identity of skeletons

The crime branch will use the superimposition technique to match the six skeletons with photos of Laila Khan’s family.

In the technique, a photo suspected to be of the unidentified skeleton, is superimposed over an X-ray of the remains.

If the skeleton and photograph are of the same individual, they should align accurately.

Joint CP, crime, Himanshu Roy said police had taken DNA samples of Celina’s (Laila’s mother) mother and the mother of Talli alias Afrin alias Reshma Khan (Laila’s cousin).
