In June 2014, Pillai had booked Paes and his father Vece Paes under Protection of Women from Domestic Violence (DV) Act. In her appeal, Pillai had said she should not be prevented from living in the Bandra house where she was residing with Paes and his father.

Paes subsequently filed an application challenging the charges.

In her domestic violence application, Pillai also mentioned an incident on March 15, 2014, where Paes senior and another person broke into her room, hacked her laptop and robbed her personal information.
