Passenger dies on aircraft

A passenger on a Kochi-Mumbai SpiceJet flight died before the flight landed in the city on Thursday morning. Airport officials said that Chandra Prakash, 47, had complained of breathlessness when the aircraft was mid-air. A doctor travelling in the flight checked on Prakash but airline sources said he had stopped responding.

When airport doctors examined him at the tarmac, his pupils were dilated and blood pressure was untraceable.

“The pulse was missing and the heart beats and respiratory sounds were not audible,” said a spokesperson of the Mumbai International Airport Limited.

Officials said Prakash suffered from chronic bronchial asthma and a heart condition which results in abnormal narrowing of the opening of valves.

Prakash’s body was handed over to the airport police station.
