“The incident took place late last night, when a part of the building, situated on Bhandarkar Road outside Matunga train station, collapsed,” officials of Disaster Control (DC) department of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
“Two persons, both of them pedestrians who are yet to be identified, came under the debris. They were rushed to Sion Hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival,” police said.
“The building is over 70 years old. Furthermore, no notice was issued by the BMC to the landlord,” the DC officials said.
The building, which housed a lodge, a coaching centre, a bank and several shops, also had two mobile towers installed on the terarce, police said.
A case has been registered, police said, adding they would be recording the landlord’s statement.
