The victim and the doctor met each other, when the former was admitted to the VN Desai Hospital for malaria treatment. The woman had come to the city from Bihar and lived with her relatives.

While undergoing treatment, she told the accused doctor that she belonged to a poor family and worked at a local clinic in Golibar in Santacruz. She gave the doctor her phone number, asking him to contact her if he came across a better job opportunity.

“The doctor called her on several occasions and later proposed to her. After this, the duo had sexual relations,” said Uttamrao Pachpute, inspector of Vakola police.

When he learnt that the woman was pregnant, he gave her a medicine for abortion. Subsequently, he started avoiding her calls. The victim then approached the police.
