Several officers in the Mantralaya have reportedly rented out their flats obtained under various government schemes — whether under the chief minister’s discretionary quota or housing societies on land allotted by the state government without making them go through competitive bidding.

Home minister RR Patil, on Friday, told the state Assembly that the housing department, urban development department and Maharashtra Housing And Area Development Authority (Mhada) will soon prepare a list of officers who have got flats under the chief minister’s quota or in buildings constructed on a plot allotted by the government.

“If we come across any instance of misuse by any officer, action would be initiated against him,” Patil said.

Recently, a sex racket at Meera housing society in Oshiwara —where several IAS and IPS officers have got flats under the government quota — was busted.

Mangesh Sangale and Bala Nandgaonkar (MNS) alleged that the officers had rented out their flats in the society for lakhs of rupees.

Nana Patole (BJP) demanded information on the flats availed by the IAS and IPS officers through special quotas in the city and their use.

Patil said that the flat where the racket was being run did not belong to any government official. He, however, admitted that the society was constructed on a government plot and 37 IAS, 14 IPS officers have flats in it.
