“Those who love Maharashtra and are proud of it will participate in the drive and I am confident it would be a huge success,” Uddhav Thackeray said.

Asked what would the Sena do with so much of blood and wouldn’t it go waste, he said, “Mumbai alone requires 25,000 blood bottles and Maharashtra around 90,000.”

It is one of the biggest ever such drives to be organised and the Sena was in touch with blood banks and hospitals. The party expects a minimum of 1 lakh people to participate.

The Sena aims to collect 25,000 blood bottles on a single day on the occasion of the golden jubilee of Maharashtra. The drive will be held at Goregaon.

“There will be state-of-the-art preparations and international norms will be followed during the drive,” he said.

Under the party’s plan, each of its 227 shakha pramukhs will get donors from their respective areas to reach the target. If the party achieves this, it will walk into the Guinness Book of World Records for collecting the highest number of blood bottles in one day.

The Sena will organise a musical programme on May 1 where Lata Mangeshkar will sing and the entire Mangeshkar family will participate.
