Sobo merchant cheated of Rs 6.8 lakh

The DB Marg police registered a case of cheating after a south Mumbai-based diamond merchant was duped to the tune of Rs6.8 lakh by a broker. The police said that they are yet to arrest the accused who fraudulently kept the diamonds in his possession in the name of striking a deal and did not pay for the same.

The DB Marg police registered a case of cheating after a south Mumbai-based diamond merchant was duped to the tune of Rs6.8 lakh by a broker. The police said that they are yet to arrest the accused who fraudulently kept the diamonds in his possession in the name of striking a deal and did not pay for the same.

The accused Rakesh Shah, 40, took 25.88 carat diamonds from Jairam Morarka from JB Jewellers located in Opera House area. The police said that each of the diamonds was worth Rs23,500. Shah had stated that he had a customer and would strike a deal soon.

“However, after the deal failed to happen, he neither returned the diamonds nor paid for the same. We are trying to trace the accused,” said an officer of DB Marg police station.
