The police on Sunday arrested an employee of a courier company, who with the help of two other colleagues, fled with ornaments worth Rs 91 lakh. One of the employees was arrested on December 5.
The police managed to recover 439 rings, 412 nose rings, 51 mangalsutras and nine pendants, worth Rs 35 lakh from them and are conducting inquiries to trace the third accused. The accused, Prakash Mishra and Ajay Upadhyaya were employees of Simplex Couriers at Kalbadevi for the past few years.
Mishra was picked up from Dahisar on December 5. Police inspector Shrikant Desai from LT Marg police station said, “Mishra during his interrogation revealed his partner Ajay Upadhyaya had returned to his residence in Jogeshwari. This is where we recovered ornaments worth Rs 35 lakh”. As of now, Mishra is in judicial custody whereas Upadhyaya is in police custody.
On October 29, the tro were supposed to take gold ornaments worth Rs 91 lakh to the airport for further delivery to various parties in North India.
However, instead of delivering it, they fled to Surat with all the ornaments.
