US warships reach Mumbai

Thirty-four warships from the US Seventh Fleet, led by an aircraft carrier, have been stationed close to the Mumbai coast for US President Barack Obama's scheduled visit to the city on Saturday, even as a massive convoy of presidential vehicles made a touchdown on Wednesday.

Highly placed sources in the Mumbai police said that the convoy of 25 limousines and jeeps — including the Lincoln Continental in which the president travels - were brought in a transport plane. They will be driven to the city before the president's arrival.

Sources said that the president, upon arrival in the Mumbai airport around 11.50am, will fly to INS Shikara, the naval station in Colaba.
