Watchman held in Rs 3.5 crore jewellery theft

The crime branch on Wednesday arrested the missing 22-year-old watchman in connection with the Rs3.5 crore burglary in the MIDC area of Andheri (East) last month. The stolen booty of gold and diamond ornaments has been recovered.

The crime branch on Wednesday arrested the missing 22-year-old watchman in connection with the Rs3.5 crore burglary in the MIDC area of Andheri (East) last month. The stolen booty of gold and diamond ornaments has been recovered.

Deputy commissioner of police, crime, Nisar Tamboli said Balbir alias Sonu Chenale, was arrested on Wednesday while trying to find a buyer for the stolen goods.

The burglary at Gitanjali Gems and Jewellery’s office came to light on May 16.

Chenale, who was working as a watchman at the company’s office, had gone missing following the burglary.
