NOIDAA warehouse of Idea cellular company in Noida’s Sector 63 was gutted in a fire on Friday afternoon. At least 10 fire tenders and 100 policemen were pressed into action to put out the fire.The fire broke out on the ground floor of the two-storey building. At least 15 persons were working there at that time. The security guards on the premises spotted sparks coming from a cable box and rushed with fire extinguishers but the fire soon intensified and spread through the building.A security guard said, “The incident took place around 11am. The workers were busy in the office when we saw sparks in a panel box on the ground floor. There was an immediate fire alert. We took extinguishers and rushed to the spot. By then, the smoke and fire had spread to other areas.”The security guards then alerted the staff and evacuated the premises.Akhilesh Pradhan, station house officer, Phase-3 police station, said, “Soon after we were informed about the incident, we informed fire services and 10 fire tenders were rushed to douse the fire.”“The fire had originated in the building due to a short circuit, fire officials said. Initially, it took some time for firefighters to douse the flames and enter the building. However, all persons were safely evacuated and no one was injured,” Pradhan said.The fire was put out after four hours. “Since it was a warehouse, some documents related to the customer ID proofs were gutted,” Pradhan said.Idea Cellular, in a statement, said, “There has been an unfortunate incidence of fire at our warehouse. We have taken all necessary action to control the situation and got full support from the local authorities and the fire department. This is an act of God, but as a responsible organisation, Idea Cellular has taken all necessary safety and security measures to ensure all our people are safe.”A police case has been registered in the matter.
