A fire broke out in a vacant house in Shipra Suncity residential township in Vaibhav Khand, Indirapuram, on Thursday evening. Fire safety officials took half an hour to douse the flames which damaged all household items in the house.

The house belongs to Maneesh Chandaul, an official of National Thermal Power Corporation Limited. He had rented the flat to Rishi, a furniture dealer, who had gone to a friend’s house in Noida on Wednesday night.
Around 4 pm on Thursday, neighbours saw flames coming out of the flat after which the fire department was alerted.
“Two fire tenders reached the spot around 4.20 pm. As the flat was locked, the fire safety workers had to break into the flat. There was a lot of smoke inside and the workers had to wear oxygen masks to enter the apartment,” said Ajay Sharma, fire safety official at Vaishali fire station.
The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained. The power supply to the flat was disconnected for the past 10 days, Sharma said.
“The occupant of the flat told us that he stays with his family in Chander Nagar and rarely visits the flat in Shipra Suncity. Due to non-payment of power bills, there was no electricity in the apartment. Hence, the cause of fire is yet unknown,” Sharma said.
