Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has questioned Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to combat corruption.
Aasked about Modi’s credentials to be the PM, following a public meeting in Patna on Thursday, he said, “This is clear from his (Modi's) failure to bring a strong Lokayukta in Gujarat."
"I ask him (Modi) — if he is a good candidate for running the country, why has he not made Gujarat a corruption-free state?” Hazare said.
“So many complaints of corruption have been coming from Gujarat. People are tossing his name for the PM's post... If he is so good a candidate, why did he not bring a strong Lokayukta bill? This proves that Modi is not interested in making a corruption-free India.”
In answer to a question on the probable future PM, he said, "Anybody can become the PM. The country has seen so many prime ministers in the last 65 years. What difference has it made? A change will come only when the people have the independence to choose their PM.”
