On Friday, divisional railway manager, Danapur, P K Gupta made an inspection of the sites where the four moving staircases would be set up for convenience of the passengers.

Each escalator costs around Rs 50 lakh, sources said.

With the installation of escalators, Patna junction would be among the select stations across the country to have this facility. At present Vile Parle station in Mumbai and New Delhi, have the escalators while work is going on to install the same at Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Tatanagar and other select stations.

Going by reports, one escalator would be installed on platform number 1 on the western flank near the reservation office connecting the foot overbridge.

On an average, the station receives 1.25 lakh footfalls with around 260 pairs of trains passing through this junction, making it one of the busiest terminals in the country.

Officials do admit, that the installation of the escalators would come as a big relief to passengers to commute from one platform to other, especially women and old passengers.
