“I remember in the early 80’s as a young girl thinking if I was attracted to women it meant I had AIDS and I would infect everyone I loved with the virus & kill them. It was around the time when AIDS was discovered and there was much fear, misunderstanding & hatred surrounding the gay community. I had my arm around a girlfriend and a bully from the neighbourhood said your gay and spat in my face, saying over & over that I had AIDS. I calmly told him he didn’t know what the hell he was talking about, I learnt then that hatred & fear wasn’t the answer, later realising education compassion understanding and love is the only way.” (Instagram/katrinaleeford)
