SanjivaniWe all remember Dr Shashank Gupta; tall, strapping, strict and reticent. This medical drama aired on Star Plus from 2002 to 2005 and gained popularity easily. Hospital interns, hospital politics, young love, major surgeries, jealousy, mature love; predictably, the focus of Sanjivani shifted from 'medical drama' to melodrama. But Dr Shashank remained in our hearts ever since.

Dill Mill GayyeSequel to Sanjivani, Dill Mill Gayye ran from August 2007 to October 2010 on Star One. Following the lives of surgical interns and resident doctors, this medical drama dealt with all the issues that its predecessor dealt it, albeit with an extra dose of melodrama. Dill Mill Gayye also starred Mohnish Bahl as Dr Shashank Gupta (again) and Karan Singh Grover, as Dr Armaan Mallik (known for his arm tattoo and shapely eyebrows).

ScrubsAn American medical comedy-drama television series, Scrubs ran from October 2001 to March 2010. The series, which follows the lives of employees at the fictional Sacred Heart teaching hospital, was created by Bill Lawrence. The title is a play on surgical scrubs and a term for a low-ranking person because at the beginning of the series, most of the main characters were medical interns. Music plays a large role in Scrubs, with a wide variety of rock, pop, and indie artists being featured. Almost every episode ends with a musical montage summing up the themes and plot lines of the episode.

HouseHugh Laurie not only mastered the American accent (you DO know he's British, right?), but cracked all the cryptic cases that were handed over to him. Quick-witted, with a sardonic sense of humour, Dr Gregory House is quite the rake, the man you want to be with, and also not be with. The show set in the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital (PPTH) in New Jersey, aired its final season this May, after a successful run of eight seasons (November 2004-May 2012). The show received numerous awards, including five Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, a Peabody Award, and nine People's Choice Awards.
