Paper to screen: 5 book adaptations releasing this year

Novels have always inspired filmmakers to make movies, be it Wolf of Wall Street or the Harry Potter series. Like the previous years, the year 2014 also saw a slew of book adaptations like The Fault in our Stars, Divergent, Winter’s Tale, Vampire Academy and various others, which have already been released over the past one year. Now, Hollywood is all set to come up with more such movies that are based on literary works. So brace yourself bookworms and movie lovers. It is t the story of Bilbo Baggins’ j journey and his adventures t through Middle Earth. Actors Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, and Orlando Bloom will reprise their Hobbit roles in this final installment in the Hobbit series.

The GiverPublished in 1993 by Lois Lowry, y, The Giver is the story of a young g boy named Jonas who gets the task of being the new ‘receiver of memory’ — a person who keeps the society’s past memories. Meeting the previous s receiver— ‘the giver’— makes Jonas conflicted. In the film adaptation of the book, that is releasing today, actor Jeff Bridges will be seen in the role of the giver, while actor Brenton n Thwaites will be seen as Jonas.

The Maze RunnerThis film is based on the first young adult trilogy by author James Dashner, which got published in 2009. Slated to release on September 19 this year, The Maze runner follows the young protagonist, Thomas, as he navigates a fantasy world called the Glade. With a group of other boys, they must solve the mystery of the maze they’re in while dodging monsters and other dangers. Actor Dylan O’Brien will be seen playing the role of Thomas.

The story revolves around und a real estate developer whose e wife gets kidnapped by two convicts. The plan hits a snag g when he doesn’t want his wife fe back and refuses to pay the ransom. The film version of the novel has been titled, Life e of Crime. Seen in the film will l be actors Tim Robbins, Jennifer Aniston, John Hawkes and Isla Fisher. The movie is set to release on August 29 this year.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1This film is based on a sci-fi novel by Suzanne Collins, which got published in 2010. It is the third installment in The Hunger Games film series, which is set in a dystopian world where youngsters are forced to fight each other to death. The film stars actors Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Donald Sutherland, Woody Harrelson and Philip Seymour Hoffman. This will be Hoffman’s last screen appearance, as he died in February this year after a drug overdose.
