The Supreme Court said that 10% Economically Weaker Society (EWS) quota cannot be applied to PG medical courses in Maharashtra for the academic year 2019-20 as admissions started in November 2018 while the 103 Constitutional amendment was passed in January this year. A vacation bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Aniruddha Bose said 10% EWS quota cannot be granted unless additional seats are created by the Medical Council of India. (ANI)

The toll from spurious liquor tragedy in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki rose to 18 as an excise inspector and two other accused which include Daanveer Singh, owner of the shop where liquor was sourced from, were arrested.
