Hartalika Teej 2022: Here's how the festival is celebrated in Nepal

Hartalika Teej is a Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is celebrated by married women a few days after Hariyali Teej and Kajari Teej, on the third day(Tritiya) of the Shukla Paksha.

Hartalika Teej is predominantly celebrated in Nepal, Northern and Western India to welcome the monsoon season. Nepali Hindu women observe the festival by getting into their best traditional outfits (preferably red), fasting, singing folk songs, dancing and worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The first day of Teej is known as 'Dar Khane Din' where women in bright red traditional attires assemble at one place and sing folk songs and dance. On this day, devotees prepare a special dish called 'dar' and enjoy a grand feast with friends and family. (Reuters)

The second day is the fasting day. In Kathmandu, Nepal, women visit the Pashupatinath temple to worship Lord Mahadev. After seeking blessings from Lord Shiva, women break their fast with some fresh fruits and Kada Pani (crystallized sugar water). (AFP)

Chathurthi is the day between Teej and Rishi Panchami. Nothing special takes place on this day. Women rise early, take bath, get on their clean clothes and worship Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva's wife, before taking any food. (Reuters)
