A medal would have put Manu in the same bracket as hockey legends like Dhyan Chand in terms of number of Olympic medals won by Indians. She is already the first Indian to have won two medals at the same Olympics.  (PTI)

Simone Biles won gold in gymnastics women's vault, her pet event. It was her third gold medal at the Paris Games itself and the seventh overall of her career. Biles came up with a truly mind boggling routine that gives her a score of 15.300. Brazil's Rebeca Andrade took silver with 14.966 while Biles's USA teammate Jade Carey won bronze with 14.466. Jamaican legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who was chasing her fifth consecutive medal in 100m, was listed as DNS in the women's semifinal. This was set to be Fraser-Pryce's final Olympics.  (REUTERS)

Nishant Dev lost a thrlling quarterfinal in men's 71kg boxing. Nishant was up against Mexican second seed Marco Verde and while he had won the first round, the latter came back strong in the second and third and swayed the judges in his favour. Nishant was looking to become the fourth Indian after Vijender Singh, Mary Kom and Lovlina Borgohain to win an Olympic medal in boxing.   (REUTERS)
