A Syrian girl eats a bread which was baked in a makeshift oven using the remains of a rocket on the eastern outskirts of the Syrian capital, Damascus. After six years of conflict, Syrians are facing one of the largest humanitarian crisis in the world with children having paid the ultimate price. According to UNICEF, 2016 was the worst year for Syrian children with more 600 reported dead. Nearly 6 million children are estimated to be dependent upon humanitarian assistance with most of them suffering from war-related trauma in Middle East’s conflict zone. Adnan(R), 19 who was shot in the spine from a sniper in 2013 as he was crossing a bridge on his bike to bring bread to his family in Homs province, pushes his wheelchair at a small alley back to his home. Adnan is now paralyzed from the waist down although operations and physiotherapy enabled him to strengthen his upper body to adjust to the new life.
