Gobindgarh Fort, which is going to be inaugurated on December 12 by chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy Sukhbir Singh Badal, will eventually be converted into the region’s first virtual reality theme park. History and culture will come alive with the help of new technology.
HT interviewed chairman of the initiative, Bollywood actor, director and producer Deepa Sahi, who revealed about the unique 3D virtual world which they aim to create at the fort here.
She along with award winning director Ketan Mehta, who is also the creative head for this mega tourism project, aim to make this place a space for today’s generation where various technologies will come together to unfold the glorious history and culture of Punjab.
Deepa said the state government had floated tenders for the project and her private company ‘Mayanagri World One’ was chosen for it.
“Gobindgargh Fort will be a PPP (public-private partnership model), which has been restored by the state government but will be designed and created by us. Being a Punjabi myself, I couldn’t find a better chance to tell people of how rich the Punjab’s history and culture are. People in different states think Punjabis are just ha ha he he (some lively community) and foodies. They are, no doubt. But despite being big-hearted, they also have made huge sacrifices and contribution in the history of the nation, which is untold to the younger generation,” said Deepa.
She said, “History will pour out of every brick of the fort. Technology will run at the four grand bastions at all its four corners.”
TECH SAVVY FORT
People will get a chance to experience a blend of art, entertainment and technology as it will have augmented-reality and virtual-reality shows.
Shows like Lion of Punjab will take audience to the period of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 19th century, which will be projected with holography and Pepper’s ghost technology.
A 3D flyover will project the landmarks of Punjab. In one of the bastions, ‘21 Against 10,000The Battle of Saragarhi’ will be projected to recreate the heroic saga and the battle of Saragarhi. A SPACE FOR THE YOUTH “It was a challenge for us and our team to attract youth to the fort and for this, we brought together various technologies like lasers, projection mapping, 3D shows, illusionary techniques and more. I had to do indepth study of the technologies being used globally. But today, I can assure that the moment this model is functional, it will be one of its kind. It will be a full-day activity zone,” said Deepa.
There will also be a place called Gobindgarh Haat where traditional ‘bazar’ (market) will be created, another corner will have Punjabi cuisines. As night falls, the mute walls will have a story to tell through the laser show. Deepa said the entry ticket will be just Rs 25 and other tickets inside will vary from Rs 150-200.
LIVE SHOW CONCERTS BY PERSONALITIES
The couple, which has a strong hold in the Bollywood, will contact various artistes from the industry to perform at the fort. They will launch ‘Gobindgarh Kohinoor Awards’ on Monday, which will later become a regular feature at the fort. “We will honour personalities from various fields who have achieved big in their respective fields and have made major contributions to the society,” said Deepa.
