Former SGPC president and incumbent member Jagir Kaur will conduct a meeting with other members of the gurdwara body on Sunday here to counter the parallel “jathedars” appointed by radical who summoned her over her conviction on charges of forcing abortion on her daughter, who was murdered later.
Notably, AAP MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, who has fought multiple elections against Kaur from Bholath, had demanded her excommunication in light of the Akal Takht’s move of excommunicating rape accused former Akali minister Sucha Singh Langah. He lodged complaint to Akal Takht against her as well.
Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has said the matter would be “throughly discussed” but the parallel jathedars summoned her on November 7.
Irked over this, Kaur held a press conference in Jalandhar on Friday to corner the “so-called parallel clergy” and alleged that they are hurting the sanctity of the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs. Besides, she called a meeting of supporting SGPC members to chalk out a strategy to counter them.
“We will meet the Akal Takht jathedar with a memorandum after the meeting.”
When asked why such a meeting was not being presided over by the SGPC chief, Kirpal Singh Badungar, she said, “It is the moral duty of SGPC members to take measures to neutralise anti-panthic forces.”
