'Rs 7.6 crore issued for self-employment under women empowerment fund'

The Mai Bhago Istri Shakti Yojna initiated by the Punjab government to empower women in rural areas by providing opportunities of self-employment was being run successfully in the Jalandhar district, disclosed Jalandhar deputy commissioner Shruti Singh on Monday.

The Mai Bhago Istri Shakti Yojna initiated by the Punjab government to empower women in rural areas by providing opportunities of self-employment was being run successfully in the Jalandhar district, disclosed Jalandhar deputy commissioner Shruti Singh on Monday.

Singh said that all the 1,005 villages of the district were being covered under the scheme through 245 co-operative societies.

In order to open new vistas of self-employment for girls and women of the district, 90 self-help groups have been constituted and were being given monetary assistance, she added.

Singh revealed that 22,031 women have been enrolled in these groups out of which 3,481 have been issued loans amounting to Rs 7.6 crore at a low rate of interest.
