Yoga against Sikhism, practice gatka instead: SAD(A) chief Simranjit Mann

The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) has asked Sikhs to oppose the International Yoga Day being celebrated on June 21 and appealed them to take part in ‘gatka’ games.

The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) has asked Sikhs to oppose the International Yoga Day being celebrated on June 21 and appealed them to take part in ‘gatka’ games instead.

The party’s president and radical Sikh leader Simranjit Singh Mann claimed that it was against ‘Sikhism’ to practice yoga so that Sikhs should not perform these asanas in their lives.

He said that the ‘gatka’ was started to train people in self-defence. He claimed that the game makes “our mind sound and strong and we should practice it on a regular basis.’
