In a shocking incident, Nigerian striker, Endurance Idahor, died during a game for his Sudanese club, El Merriekh.

Idahor slumped inside the box after only 15 minutes of action in a league game against Al Amal, which is based in the northwest of Sudan.

The body will undergo an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Meanwhile, early

medical reports state that a heart attack is the most likely cause of his death.

One report said the 25-year-old Idahor was felled by an elbow of an Al Amal defender, while another report suggested that he swallowed his tongue and passed away.

Idahor, who has Sudanese citizenship, was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Angry El Merriekh fans attacked Al Amal players and battled police before the match was abandoned.

Thousands of fans, some of them weeping and crying, rushed to the hospital to pay tributes to a player who has been a great role model since he joined with El Merriekh in 2006.

Only a few weeks ago, the player had visited a home for motherless babies in Sudan, where he donated his salary for three months. Last weekend, he had scored in his team's 3-1 win at home over Saint George of Ethiopia in the second leg of the CAF Champions league first round match. When he played in Nigeria, he featured for several clubs.
