Mohammed Zubair was arrested by the Delhi Police on June 27 for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through one of his tweets posted in 2018 against a Hindu deity.
The Supreme Court gave him interim bail in all FIRs lodged against him in Uttar Pradesh, saying "exercise of the power of arrest must be pursued sparingly".
The court in its order said political parties are open to criticism. "The alleged act would come into the category of offence only when it is done with a gulty intention," the court observed.
The Alt News co-founder will remain in jail as he faces six other cases in Uttar Pradesh related to hurting religious sentiments.
